Player Of The Week
What a difference a day makes. On Thursday last week’s top performers were E-CIGARETTES and HANDGUN PERMITS. By midnight Friday it was this:
We’re leaving the work of assessing Friday’s political earthquake to those who do it best. But this is what a political earthquake does to the language. It wasn’t just the Top Ten that registered the event. It was the Top Fifty— it was all ABORTION, all the time— dredging up malwords that were obsolete and nearly out of circulation for years. Half of last weeks’ Top Ten were until Friday perennial sub-ten WPM performers.
Volume Movers
The monthly volume players (terms with over 50K instances YTD in the news corpora) continue to be led by a steadily waning UKRAINE, now solidly sub-400 WPM against INFLATION which eclipsed PANDEMIC to grab the #2 spot on the monthly leaderboard.
ABORTION made a massive leap from last place on Friday, almost touching 1500 WPM to eclipse VACCINE, but still far below PANDEMIC and INFLATION. Several weeks of 1,000+ WPM’s will be needed to close the gap.
Daily Thirty
In the Daily Thirty, ABORTION repeated its May 3 breakout at scale, as UKRAINE ended the week at 351.84 WPM, up 116 points on PANDEMIC (236.7 WPM) and INFLATION (234.4 WPM) who are in a fistfight for second place.
And how about that volatility?
Compare the volatility chart from this week above to last week’s below: ABORTION has flipped from startlingly negative on the 7-Day—signalling a breakout was about to take place— to wildly positive. New mantra: Linguistics predict consequences; Malwords predict massive consequences.
Call To Action
We’ve posited in prior writings an unreal and unhoped-for scenario of ABORTION hitting a core high of 11,000 WPM, if the Old Man and The Regime undermine the Supreme Court on Dobbs. Which we saw happening on Friday, as ABORTION predictably rocketed off the launch pad, sinking stomachs.
On a happier note, however, we also saw why news like this is dropped on a Friday. Sure, give everyone a chance to get out of Dodge, but the slower weekend news cycle is like emptying a bag of marbles on the floor, or throwing spikes on the racetrack. And you can see the weekend effect in the pullback on WPM’s—Friday 1495 WPM, Saturday 1192 WPM, Sunday at 692 WPM.
Are we seeing a repeat of ABORTION’s early May flash in the pan breakout and fizzle that accelerates the America’s Moral Reconstruction? Or is this the harbinger of a revolutionary period of Terror that many are predicting? We’ll be tracking ABORTION closely through the week to see where this all is pointing.
Keep tuned it right here at Malwords Weekly.
About Malwords
Malwords are keywords weaponized for information warfare. They function within public discourse as intellectual malware, verbal viruses designed to spread quickly for the purposes of a) silencing dissent through control of language, narrative, and speech, b) increasing public tolerance for government-sanctioned atrocity and c) emboldening officials to commit acts of atrocity.
Malword strength is measured by their frequency of appearance in the published body of language (corpus), and expressed in words per million (WPM) linguistic units (words, numbers, symbols, acronyms, etc).
Malword WPM’s typically follow a three-phase lifecycle: Pre-Curve test-markets the new term and puts up the store front; Curve, or Core, is launch phase, characterized by a rapid, exponential liftoff and sudden plunge; Post-Curve is a long, asymptotic tail and is the period in which primary-objective atrocities are implemented.
