The Week In Malwords

NATIONALISM has been back in the news, but you would never know it from the numbers. The term has been in the low double-digits for the last decade, peaking at 25 WPM in the Trump Years, bur recently dragged back into the teens with collocated qualifiers such as WHITE, CHRISTIAN, and PATRIOT.

Just In Time For Spring: A New Threat To Democracy

But new life could be just around the corner. Our coastal elites have just come out with a blockbuster that everyone should read, according to our coastal elites. Two WHITE MEN who should know-- one a journalist, the other a college professor— published a book announcing a stunning new discovery:

RURAL WHITE MEN are the new existential threat to GLOBALISM-- aka OUR DEMOCRACY.

And they bring the receipts. According to their peer-reviewed, fact-checked findings, WHITE MEN living in rural America are the 

1. most racist, xenophobic, anti-immigrant, anti-gay

2. most conspiracist group: Qanon subscribers, election denialism, COVID denialism, scientific skepticism, Obama-birtherism

3. most anti-democratic-- no free speech, imperial presidency, white Christian nationalist

4. most likely to excuse violence as an alternative to peaceful public discourse

This is what it means to be someone who is anti-democratic in OUR DEMOCRACY. Rural white dudes are checking all the boxes.

And something needs to be done.

What it is they won't say. Topic for their next book, we're betting. 

But the words sound eerily familiar. And we are wondering if any of our Jewish, Armenian, Native-, Black-, Japanese-American, Bosnian, Croatian, Rwandan, South African readers, etc can chime in here?

Because to this WHITE RURAL MALE, there's a highfalutin' term to describe where this is all going--SUBSPECIATION-- (noun): the formation of a subspecies, raciation (Merriam Webster).

Often resulting in inability to see the other as even human.

And let the atrocities begin.  

And Only Borderless Males Can Save Us Now

America has always had a knack for sublimating its atrocities, but typically you see it coming from the tough guys-- the Andrew Jacksons, the Ulysses Grants, the George Pattons, the Donald Trumps.

War is hell—Gen. William Tecumseh Sherman, describing his torching of Georgia, a practice that would come to be known as scorched-earth policy.

This time, however, it's coming from guys with no edges--BORDERLESS American males vehemently opposed to invasions of other people's countries, AND as vehemently unopposed to the invasion of their own.

Because to do anything about it makes you a racist, xenophobic, anti-immigrant, anti-gay, conspiracist, denialist white, Christian NATIONALST white rural male.

And that is not--says the least impressive white male ever to occupy the Oval Office-- who we are as a people.

That's not who we are, folks!

Let this guy make it past Labor Day with these numbers, and watch these very very very devilish MAGA people-- who fight for their country, defend their borders, stand up for their rights, protect their families-- suddenly go from not being who we are to not being people at all.

Subspeciation would be the word for it.

Let the atrocities begin.

Let's open up a new path to citizenship.

How’s That Grass Doing On The Other Side?

Yeah, that's a downer, especially here on a Sunday. So we thought it might be fun to see how NATIONALISM is faring around the globe. We found some surveys, slightly dated but recent enough. And the results were eye-opening.

First, there's a YouGov survey done back in 2016 that asks citizens how they felt about their countries. ¹

Percentages of people responding in the affirmative to the statement "My country is the best country in the world" ranked as follows:

• France: 5%

• Germany: 5%

• VietNam: 6%

• Sweden: 7%

• Singapore: 7%

• Finland: 11%

• Norway: 11%

• Malaysia: 11%

• Denmark: 13%

• UK: 13%

• Indonesia: 14%

• Philippines: 15%

• Thailand: 25%

• Saudi Arabia: 25%

• UAE: 27%

• Australia: 34%

• India: 36%

• USA: 41%

Then there is a more targeted survey done by WorldAtlas in 2018, quantifying the most patriotic nations in the world by asking respondents' willingness to fight for their country. ²

Interestingly, citizens admitting their countries are not exactly the best places to live--VietNam, Finland, Philippines, Thailand-- are more than willing to fight for their homelands.

Meanwhile, people from developed countries-- many insulated from kinetic conflict since 1945, tend to see their countries as not worth fighting for. Although not at the bottom of the list United States scored 44%, Switzerland scored 39 %, Denmark scored 30% while Britain scored 27%. The least patriotic countries were Germany, Netherlands, and Japan at 18%, 15% and 11% respectively.

Without the underlying data, we don't want to draw too many conclusions, but it's easy to see that developed countries-- the ones that like to regard themselves as advanced societies-- have gone dangerously soft around the edges, and are decaying from within.

And when you start asking why that is, you cannot ignore forty years of men being raised in feminist-dominated education systems that seek to shame, punish and extirpate all expressions of masculinity as toxic, and characterize the male subspecies as creepy, gross, despicable, and better off invisible.

People raised to hate themselves can be expected not to love, protect or respect themselves. Or others-- including country, communities, and families. And if you want to raise men not to love themselves, you need be accountable and tell their neighbors to watch out.

So how about this? Instead of trying to start a conversation about a Final Solution for a pesky male subspecies left behind by late-stage capitalism, let’s decry, defund, and defenestrate flabby self-haters like the writers above, who propose subspeciation of fellow men whom they are no longer capable of regarding as human, just to make a quick buck off a trending hashtag. And start calling out those calling for the disposal of half the population as the problem.

Otherwise we will just have to keep importing replacements from so-called shithole countries to protect our increasing population of borderless men, blameless women, non-binary children, and critical infrastructure.

And what could possibly go wrong with that?
